Gregor Beck, drums Gregor Beck has joined the forces of the Big
Chris Barber Band as regular drummer in April 2010, although he stepped
in for John Sutton for a few events earlier this year.
Gregor, born and living in Germany, is one of the
finest drummer in Europe. Although he started his career with playing
the guitar, he switched at the age of 17 to the drums. In 1981, after
studying at the Augsburger Leopold Mozart Academy of Music, he had been
promoted to a Musical Teacher and Orchestra Musician. But it was already
in 1979, when the famous trumpet player Oscar Klein discovered the
talents of Gregor. He soon
became famous with Fatty George (Austria) and the Swiss Tremble Kids. In
1987 he started his work with the German "Allotria Jazz Band", where he
stayed until his change to the Big Chris Barber Band.
Luckily for the fans and the members of the "Allotria Jazz Band",
Gregor will play on selected dates with that great German band.
In the last thirty years, Gregor Beck played the
drum kit with lots of international music stars. The following list is
certainly not complete, but proves the fine musical work of Gregor:
Earle Warren, Dick Wellstood, Kenny Davern, Lars Erstrand, Joe Newman,
Major Holley, Yank Lawson, Wild Bill Davison, Woody Shaw, Benny Waters,
Sammy Price, Milt Hinton, Jay McShann, Peanuts Hucko, Bill Allred, Bob
Wilber, Spiegel Wilcox, Harold Ashby, Billy Mitchell, Clark Terry, Warren
Vache, Bucky Pizzarelli, Ralph Sutton, Jack Lesberg, Harry Allen, Lew
Tabackin, Dusko Goykovich, Ack van Rooyen, Max Greger jr.+
sen., Schnuckenack Reinhardt, Marianne Mendt, Jesse Davis, Klaus
Doldinger, Red Holloway, Keith Smith, Rod Mason, Scott Hamilton, Paul
Kuhn and many more.
In 2014 Gregor Beck decided to work as the
bands regular drummer only on Continental Tour dates. John Watson has
taken over the drum seat for the UK dates.
