Deze foto’s zijn gemaakt tijdens een concert van de Chris Barber Jazz and Blues Band. Dit concert vond plaats in theater Tivoli in Utrecht, in het voorjaar van 1976. Tivoli was een houten theater in de binnenstad. In de foyer stond een echte kastanjeboom ! Tivoli is al jaren geleden gesloopt en overleefde de band dus niet. De Chris Barber Jazz and Blues Band bestond toen uit: Chris Barber – trombone, bas en trompet; Pat Halcox - trompet; John Crocker - klarinet en altsaxofoon; Jackie Flavelle – basgitaar; John Slaughter - gitaar; Johnny McCallum – banjo en gitaar; Pete York - drums. Het was een fantastisch concert. De bandleden waren in topvorm en speelden zeer gedreven, zoals op de foto’s te zien is. Naast de “echte” dixielandnummers, speelde de band een aantal bluesstukken en zong Jackie Flavelle, onder andere, Me and Bobby McGee”. Daarnaast was “Tight like that” een hoogtepunt tijdens het concert. Uiteraard werd het optreden besloten met “Ice cream”. Opmerkelijk was ook een nummer van Pete York: “Extension 345”, een nummer dat 15 minuten duurde.

These pictures were taken during a concert by the Chris Barber Jazz and Blues Band. This concert took place in the Tivoli theatre in Utrecht, Holland, in spring 1976. Tivoli was a completely wooden theatre in the downtown section of Utrecht. In the foyer stood a real chestnut tree! This theatre was demolished years ago, and so did not survive the band! The band members at that time were: Chris Barber – trombone, bass and trumpet; Pat Halcox – trumpet; John Crocker – clarinet and alto saxophone; Jackie Flavelle – bass guitar; John Slaugther – guitar; Johnny McCallum – banjo and guitar; Pete York – drums. It was a fantastic concert. The band members were in fine form and played very enthusiastically, as you can see in the pictures. Next to the “real” dixieland songs, the band played some blues songs, and Jackie Flalvelle sung, amongst others, “Me and Bobby McGee”. Also “Tight like that” was one of the highlights in this concert. Of course “Ice cream” was the last number! Remarkable also was “Extension 345”, a solo by Pete York, a number that lasted for fifteen minutes!
