Live Kasino Teatret Aarhus 1953
Ken Colyer's Jazzmen
CD: Jazzen JACD-001
Released in 2004

Ken Colyer's Jazzmen: Live At Kasino Teatret Aarhus 1953 features what are probably the oldest known recordings from the Colyer band, made during their first visit to Denmark after Ken's return from New Orleans earlier that year. The sound quality is a little rough by today's standards, but remarkably good when one considers that the original tapes have been in existence for more than fifty years. The CD includes thirteen concert numbers by the Colyer band, several of which went on to become Barber features, such as "High Society", "Midnight Special", "My Old Kentucky Home", and "St. Louis Blues". One of the most notable tracks is "Wild Cat Blues", likely the first recording of this Barber classic, featuring Monty Sunshine on clarinet, Lonnie Donegan on banjo, and Chris Barber on bass. There are also two "bonus" tracks from the 1954 Chris Barber's Jazz Band: "On A Christmas Day" and "White Christmas".
